Casino retail park

FRANCE – Pessac (Bordeaux Métropole)

The future Retail Park is situated on the edge of woodland on a site which is partly liable to flooding. The aim is to make better use of this so far unused land and bring new life to the existing trading estate.

To protect the adjoining woodland, AIM Hanemian Architects proposed to site all new construction as far away as possible and separate it by means of a purpose-built access road behind the supermarket for supply traffic and emergency vehicles. Buildings and woodland are thus satisfactorily cut off one from the other.

The architecture is in the same style as the existing buildings, but a “skin graft” has been designed consisting of reflecting vertical panels given life and movement by red-striped ‘bayadères’, the new image of the Casino retail group.

The whole estate has a fresh dynamic image thanks to this new Retail Park concept with its restaurant area, re-designed car parks and separation of vehicles and pedestrians.
