Géant Casino – Shopping center

FRANCE – Exincourt (Agglomération Pays de Montbéliard)

The commission was to bring new life to a run-down shopping centre that had lost favour with customers, accessed by a pedestrian avenue along the front elevation. The Casino Group and AIM Hanemian Architects designed a revival in two stages.

Accordingly, instead of simply renovating the façade, AIM Hanemian Architects and the Casino Group took the decision to create a supermarket in front of the existing façade. The customer is thus greeted by a much more ‘contemporary’ and leisure-oriented complex. The pedestrian alley along the front of the old building in now an area for strolling between two complementary commercial buildings with shops and boutiques on either side.

A much better use is thus made of the old pedestrian access road as it has shops on two sides instead of only one.

AIM Hanemian Architects has also worked in collaboration with Isabelle Levêque, a historical landscape specialist to carry out a complete re-design of the exterior. This programme consisted of resiting pedestrian walkways, creating a parklike effect by means of shrubs and flowerbeds at the entrances, planting evergreen trees and vegetation typical of the region, and designing a geometric layout for these large revived green areas where customers can rest and relax.
